A quick google search about strength as a parent, a mom, or a single mom might just mislead you.  At first glance, it seems encouraging – all these fun images of being mom strong, or single mom strong even.  But then I started looking a little closer – Images talking about how I don’t need to rely on anyone else because I can be strong enough and independent enough to do all this on my own.

Sometimes, I’d like to believe that.  But the truth of the matter is that I can’t, and even to try to do it on my own, I don’t believe that it’s even healthy.  For me or my kids – physically or mentally.

I believe the more healthy, holistic approach is surrender.  And if you’re anything like me in that belief…I invite you to enjoy the journey with me…

Survival tip #1

slow-cooker-mistakes

I have never, ever been accused of being born to cook – however, as much as it pains me – it’s a necessary evil.  So my favorite survival secret is my crockpots – anything I can throw together and have ready on busy nights is a lifesaver.  Here’s one of the recipes that gets asked for most (at home & at work!)

Tomato Basil Soup

2 – 28 oz cans of crushed tomatos

1 – 14.5 oz can of chicken broth

1 tsp sugar

1 cup heavy whipping cream

1/2 cup butter

fresh basil (in my mind the more the better 😉 )

Throw it in, mix it up, let heat (seriously – a late lunch and putting this on warm works!) and enjoy (especially enjoy the easy clean up!!)!
